What is prenatal massage?
Prenatal Massage is tailored to the anatomical changes you go through during pregnancy. In a traditional massage, you can spend half the time lying on your stomach (which is not possible while you are pregnant) and half the time on your back (the position that puts pressure on the great blood vessels can make disrupt blood flow to your baby and make you feel nauseous).
But as your shape and posture changes, a trained masseuse will accommodate with a special cushioning or hole system that allows you to safely lie face down, while providing room for your growing belly and chest. Or you can lie on your side with the help of pillows and cushions.

Instructions for prenatal massage
Gently massage the feet: Use lotion for smoother strokes, your partner can start by gently rubbing the top of the foot, working from the toes towards the ankle and creating circles small around the ankle. Then ask them to use both thumbs to make small circles on the soles of their feet just below the toes. At the heel, they can move one thumb down as the other moves up and continue alternately. Children may also tug lightly on each toe and use their index finger or thumb to rub between them. The pressure point between the ankle bone and the heel should probably be avoided as a precaution.
Back rub: Sit up or lie on your side, ask your partner to run their hands up and down their back, use lotion to help their hands glide. They should focus on the muscles on either side of the spine and can switch to kneading the muscles with the thumb or base of the hand, moving up and down.
Shoulder rub: Using the palm of your hand or fingertips, press lightly on one side of your neck and glide it between the top of your shoulder and the base of your skull. Repeat on the double side.
Scalp massage: Moving from the base of the skull to the hairline, use both hands and spread fingers to apply gentle pressure on the scalp, lap hands together or apart. Adding gentle strokes to your face can be amazingly relaxing.
Abdomen: Don’t massage it! Instead, rub it lightly with vitamin E oil for a soothing effect on the skin and may also help prevent stretch marks.
